The Naked Truth: Reviews of Microgaming’s Playboy Slot Series.
come in every theme imaginable these days. Not just the common stuff,
like exotic vacations, sports, scif-fi fantasy, or Hollywood stuff.
I’m talking about everything imaginable theme. That includes the
scantily ladies of the world-famous Playboy estate.
It all started
in 2013 when Microgaming released the very first Playboy
Online Slot. They didn’t just mimic Hugh Hefner’s legacy.
Microgaming executives worked out a brand licensing deal that gave
them official rights to use the Playboy logo and actual images of
their lovely ladies.
Since then, two
more Playboy branded slot machines have been added to Microgaming’s
Quickfire platform, all available for desktop and mobile play. These
two were built by Microgaming’s exclusive content partner, Triple
Edge Studios, bringing the total collection to three.
The Naked Truth: Playboy Slot Series Review
Let me start by
answering the most common question of all. No, you will not see
completely naked women. Playboy is universally recognized as the
classiest of all adult magazines. They don’t do smut, and neither
does Microgaming. You’ll see a lot of skin, but there are no
bear-all symbols or bonus features.
With that being
said, we’ll take a quick look at the finer points within each of
Microgaming’s branded Playboy casino games.
Playboy Online Slot – 2013
The first in the
series, the Playboy Online Slot was built in-house and launched in
2013. It’s a 243 ways to win game with 5×3 reels and a moderately
high variance. While the graphics aren’t quite as smooth as the
later editions, this one has the best overall RTP of all the games in
the series, coming in at 96.57%.
The backdrop for
this slot is a late night beach club. Each of the game’s four
lovely ladies, Jillian, Ashley, Sofia, and Kimi, are linked to the
free spins feature. The more times a player triggers free spins, the
better they get. The first four times, Kimi will deliver 10 free
games with 5x multipliers. The feature keeps getting better from
there, with up to 25 free games Jillian stacks wilds on as many as
all five reels at random.
Playboy Gold Slot – 2018
Launched in July
of 2018, Playboy Gold was one of the first games Triple Edge Studios
built for Microgaming. It’s nothing like the original. It contains
a massive 6×10 reel grid with 100 paylines and a low variance. The
RTP is lower, but not by much, paying out at an even 96%.
The graphics are
far superior this time, having no digital look to them at all. It’s
obvious these are actual pictures, uploaded to the game in high
resolution. Feature wise, this game has a lot more going for it than
Microgaming’s original Playboy Online Slot. This time, Playboy
bunnies Stephanie, Carly, Hiromi and Gia can appear as 4×6 jumbo
blocks, capable of awarding credits, multipliers, and re-spins. Three
wheel scatters trigger the game’s wheel bonus, wherein lies access
to free games, guaranteed jumbo blocks, and/or jumbo expansions of
4×10 down the center reel.
Playboy Gold Jackpots Slot – 2019
November of 2019, this latest edition is another Triple Edge
masterpiece. It features the same red+gold color scheme, and the same
gorgeous bunnies as its predecessor. The reel grid is smaller,
reduced to 5×6 with 30 paylines. The variance and RTP fall in the
middle this time, featuring a medium volatility and return of 96.08%.
of all are the random multiplier attached to gold wild symbols in the
base game and bonus feature. Again, there are wheel scatters that
must be lined up – one each on reels 2, 3 and 4 – to trigger the
wheel bonus. Spinning the wheel will award 10 free spins or 1 of 4
possible jackpot prizes, worth 10x, 100x, 500x or 1,000x the
triggering bet. The jumbo blocks return for the Playboy slots free
games feature, guaranteeing one with every spin.
