Year after year, the eSports industry grows a bit larger; a bit more lucrative; a bit more popular among today’s millennial gamers. 2019 is turning out to be a year of firsts for this burgeoning gaming entertainment sector, especially here in Canada, where an eSports convention and gaming arena are just around the corner.

The city of Thunder Bay, Ontario is preparing to host Canada’s first annual eSports Gaming expo. Farther west the city of Richmond, BC is gearing up for the launch of its new eSports arena. And it’s all happening within a few weeks time.

First Canadian eSports Gaming Convention

Thunder Bay Hosts Inaugural Canadian eSports Gaming Convention May 31

From May 31 to June 1, 2019, Fort Williams Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario will play host to the city’s inaugural Quest: Tech & Gaming expo. All are welcome to this highly anticipated, two-day convention. It is free to attend, offering a range of sites, activities and concessions for the whole family.

The highlight of the festivities are sure to be the full roster of scheduled eSports tournaments. Attendees are welcome to compete in these events for an entry fee of $20 per person, per tournament.

Pre-registration is required to compete. The deadline for tournament registration is May 26, 2019.

Friday’s eSports Events will include:

Two Fortnite Tournaments: 6:30-9:30pm – One SOLO match (25 players) and one DUO match (25 teams), played on PC with Xbox and PS4 controller compatibility. Top 3 players/teams cash.

FIFA Tournament: 6:00-9:00pm – A double elimination event open to 16 participants on Xbox One platform. Top 3 players cash.

NHL Tournament: 6:00-9:00pm – A double elimination event open to 16 participants on PS4 platform. Top 3 players cash.

Saturday’s eSports Events will include:

Four Fortnite Tournaments: Two waves of tournaments will take place, from 10:00am-1:00pm and 3:00-6:00pm. Each wave will consists of one SOLO match (50 players) and one DUO match (50 teams), played on PC with Xbox and PS4 controller compatibility. Top 3 players/teams cash.

FIFA Tournament: 12:00-5:00pm – A double elimination event open to 32 participants on Xbox One platform. Top 3 players cash.

NHL Tournament: 12:00-5:00pm – A double elimination event open to 32 participants on PS4 platform. Top 3 players cash.

eSports Gaming Stadium Opens in June

Across the country in Richmond, BC, the Gaming Stadium is preparing to open its doors for the first time next month. Billed as the ‘first of its kind in Canada‘, the eSports arena offers a stage and large theatre screen with seats for up to 110 viewers, plus state-of-the-art equipment to accommodate today’s best gaming teams.

While the dates have yet to be announce, the new stadium’s 2019 Summer Circuit primitive schedule is available now. It’s guaranteeing eSports tournaments in League of Legends, CS:GO, Fortnite and Overwatch.

Registration should be open within the next week or two. Until then, you can reserve your spot now to guarantee a seat in this summer’s 12-week series. Reservations are free and can be canceled anytime prior to registration.
